Hands on House

So last week we battled the fleas all week, and on one of the days (btw, so far the score is fleas 3, Gray's 0) I decided to take the kids out to our local Hands on House for the day. Most of our trips out consist of doing things that mommy wants to do, I thought it would be nice to take them somewhere fun for a change! So after a lunch at an unnamed fast food restaurant, (the kids think its great fun) which was the start of our surprise day.

The Hands on House is set up in different sections, the first was a door, with a doorbell, which made all sorts of wonderful noises! After tat is a puppet area, where for some reason you could hang them on the wall? I really didn't understand that, but it entertained X for about 2 min. Then onto the tree house, which was fun for L, but not so much for X, because there were other kids there, and he is a bit timid when it comes to other children. After that we went to the ant tunnel, which was under the tree house. Then over to the construction area. We spent quite a bit of time there, L loved crawling into the blocks and grabbing them out. We then headed over to the fish catching station, where X wanted to get in with the fishes, but I wouldn't let him. After that station it off to the Farm! Where he could "milk" a cow. He was actually very concerned that he couldn't feed the cow, because it was really just the back end of the cow that was showing. Kinda creepy if you ask me. After the cow, he drove a tractor, sorted eggs, and picked corn.

Then we were off to the blocks and the giant light brite, which we didn't actually get to play with because another little baby was playing with it. For like an hour. So we had to pass that one up. We headed over to the dress up, where X and L, just kinda stood there and looked around, until the other kids left, then X was willing to go climb up the boat and try on a few things. He thought his sister would like to be a frog. He preferred the giraffe. I just enjoyed sitting for a bit before we headed off to another room.

The last room was by far a favorite for X, it was a room where you put together a whatchamacallit and took it through the different stations, (building, putting it in the machine, inspection, packing etc.) We had to do this over and over again. Then we had to clean the pieces, buff them, and blow them dry. Then there was the ball maze, the kids really enjoyed that room.

After that we headed outside to see what was outside, but it was hot, so we didn't stay long. Back inside for some face painting and more tractor driving, and egg sorting. Then it was time to go home. Which caused great distress to my kids. Both of them.

Our day ended with some purple dinosaur ice-cream from Brusters. I can say it was a great day for the kids, and well, I was exhausted by the end of it.

I have plans to try to do something like this at least once a month. Maybe twice, it gives the kids a break from the normal daily stuff we do, and they really enjoy it. I am making a list of fun things to do in the area, thankfully my kids are still in the 2 and under range, so I only have to pay for myself.
